A WRINKLE IN TIME (Madeleine L’Engle, aptd. and illus. by Hope Larson)

While the reception to the last season of Stranger Things was, um… mixed, it was awesome to see a fantasy/sci-fi classic like A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle get so much attention! This book is such a formative read for young sci-fi and fantasy fans, and I especially love this graphic novel version with artwork by Hope Larson.

For those unfamiliar, A Wrinkle in Time is the story of Meg Murry, a brilliant young girl whose father goes missing while doing top-secret government work. One night, three inter-dimensional creatures—Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Witch—sweep her, her brother, and their friend Calvin away to save Mr. Murry from captivity and stop a dark force that threatens all of time and space.

To be honest, it’s hard to capture how exciting, inventive, and empowering the story is in a few sentences. It was amazing to revisit the story I loved as a kid in the graphic novel version, and remember how it inspired the imagination and gave me a smart, courageous, and empathetic role model in Meg. If you haven’t read A Wrinkle in Time before now, maybe it’s time to pick it up!
