Holiday Book Countdown, Day 10: THE 13TH DAY OF CHRISTMAS (Adam Rex)

There’s no denying that “The Twelve Days of Christmas” is a holiday classic, but have you ever found yourself wondering what the singer did on the 13th Day? After all, that’s a lot of birds, mammals, and people to wrangle in the aftermath!

The 13th Day of Christmas is a fantastically clever take on this perennial question, in which a rather confused recipient has to ponder why his love has sent him so many unusual gifts. After a confusing phone call with his distant love and some madcap madness, the fellow comes up with a plan to share the wealth with his community in creative ways.

It’s a fantastic holiday story that combines tradition and modernity, hilarious comedy and heartfelt pathos, and a heck of a sweet twist ending. Thanks so much to Neal Porter Books and Holiday House for sending us a copy of this!
