Spooky Season 31-Day Countdown, Day 30: The Gingebread Monster by Dan Gemeinhart, illus. by Hugo L. Cueller

Happy Halloween Eve! We’ve got a perfect pick as we near the end of spooky season with this one, as it provides a delightful transition between Halloween and the winter holidays.

Young Frank N. Stine is hoping to mix up a sweet treat, but his gingerbread mix is low. Easy fix, right? Just doctor it up with a few unconventional ingredients, and voila… a horrifying monster?! When Frank flees his creation, the gingerbread creature pursues, making threatening noises and spooking the townsfolk. But what is Frank’s initial impressions of his creation were mistaken, and the terrifying treat is only trying to make a friend?

This was such a fun read, especially for the spooky kids out there. Thanks so much to Henry Holt and MacKids Books for sending us a copy of this one!
