In this companion to Sardà’s previous The Three Sisters picture book, readers meet a lonely young girl named Carmela, who is struggling to adjust to the changes in her older sister Franca since the latter made some new (and mean) friends. Going for a long walk, she happens upon a strange tower, within which lives a witch whose powers promise to change her life forever.

It’s hard to describe how lovely this title is, all at once filled with whimsy and magic while tackling relatable issues like bullying and creating inclusive communities. Tied together with an enchanting story and gorgeous illustrations, this is one that will surely become a favorite year-round.
