So You Want To Be A Rock Star (Audrey Vernick)

Hello, friends! Today’s book is So You Want To Be A Rock Star, written by Audrey Vernick and illustrated by Kirstie Edmunds, a guidebook for young rock gods and goddesses in the making.

So, you want to be a rock star? You’ll need a few tips and pointers, but this book has you covered. For instance: don’t have a super high-tech sound system with cordless microphone? Just make a fist with your hand and sing into that (another tip: the louder, the better). No guitar? Just hold out your left hand and strum your tummy with your right (and be sure to practice your rockstar faces – they look just like the kind you make when you have a stomachache). With these helpful hints and plenty more like them, you’ll be on your way to rock stardom in no time – so you’d better work on that autograph!

This one was cute, and quite enjoyable. The tips for young rock n’ rollers are perfect imagination fodder, and were entertaining to try out as we read the book. The illustrations are fun, bright and charming with just a touch of attitude, perfect for the subject matter. My only complaint is the ending, which was a bit abrupt, and made the narrative feel incomplete. There probably could have been a better finale, but otherwise, it was a good length and JJ enjoyed it. A great read for future rock stars, and Baby Bookworm approved!
