Hello, friends! Our book today is Dirt + Water = Mud by Katherine Hannigan, a delightful ode to imagination and the special bond between a girl and her dog.
An afternoon of imagination in the backyard lends to some pretty simple arithmetic: dirt + water = mud. Cape + strong breeze = flying. And though they have a few misunderstandings, the most important equation of all: a girl + her dog = best friends.
This book covered a pretty wide array of concepts, and tied them together nicely! Addition, creative play, and being a good friend all weave in nicely with a classic story of a child and a pup at play. The illustrations were very cute, and cleverly used shadow effects and creative typeset to bring the girl’s flights of fancy to life. The length was fine for baby bookworms, and JJ really loved the sweet, colorful illustrations. This is a fun book about friendship and imagination, and we enjoyed it. Baby Bookworm approved!
