Fall Festivities Week, Day 2: Hello, friends! Today, we read Fletcher And The Falling Leaves, written by Julia Rawlinson and illustrated by Tiphanie Beeke, an adorable tale of a fox’s mission to help his favorite tree.

One day, Fletcher the fox cub notices that his favorite tree looks sick: all its leaves have turned brown and orange and look dry. Then the wind begins to blow, and the leaves begin to fall! Fletcher does everything he can to help his tree, but nothing seems to work – the leaves keep falling from the branches. What will happen to his tree after the last leaf falls?

Anyone who knows us knows that we’re a fan of any book where an adorable fox is the protagonist, and Fletcher is no exception! And like the lovely sequel to this book, Fletcher And The Springtime Blossoms, the story of Fletcher learning about autumn is filled with wonder, beauty, and a touching sense of childlike innocence. And beyond the lesson about the seasons, Fletcher’s sincere concern for his tree and his earnest desire to help is a wonderful example for children, and the ultimate message that sometimes change can be inevitable – yet unexpectedly wonderful – is a good one to impart to young readers. The charming illustrations complete the package, bringing Fletcher and his world to life. The length is good, and JJ really enjoyed it, so we can definitely call this one Baby Bookworm approved!
